Paris may be the city of love and light but it is most certainly also the city of carbs. Healthy, quick meals are hard to find and most restaurants do not offer large salads apart from classics like salade du chevre chaud and salade niçoise.
So where can one find a satisfying salad? I have sleuthed the best spots around the city offering unique and gourmet greens.
For a no-frills salad bar with a plethora of options, try Jour or Green is Better. The customizable salads at these chain restaurants are quick and delicious but the prices for each topping can add up. Jour offers six bases ranging from mixed greens to spinach and toppings like avocado and green beans. At Green is Better, any salad can also be turned into a wrap.
Another popular healthy chain restaurant is Cojean. With convenient locations (like the basement of Printemps) scattered throughout Paris, Cojean offers modern twists on salads, wraps and sandwiches. The quinoa with goat cheese is a healthier take on the salade du chevre chaud and makes for a perfect snack.
My favorite salads in Paris come from Soli where the toppings are fresh, well priced and generously given. The restaurant itself is much more cozy and less cafeteria-like than other salad bars in the city. Sandwiches, quiches and hot meals are also available.
Not to be forgotten, the Marais is home to some of the best organic and healthy spots in the city. The always-popular Rose Bakery offers daily salads and Cococook takes healthy take-out to a whole new level. The Merce and the Muse has been making waves for its fantastic coffee but the food at the upper Marais café is equally as notable. Though the café only offers a few items daily, the salads are always simple and tasty- think mixed greens with goat cheese and fresh beets.
