Just as the weather varies by season in Paris, so do our appetites. In spring when the city starts to heat up, we forgo bottles of deep red Cahors for glasses of rosé, we swap gateau au chocolat for seasonal fruit tarts and refreshing sorbet, and we scour local markets for the fresh fruits and vegetables that we’ve been dreaming of all winter. The city’s best restaurants shift with us, adjusting their menus seasonally (if not daily). Super Nature, one of Paris’ hottest new organic restaurants, is among those that abide by a “what’s fresh is best” policy.
Earlier this summer, I went out to dinner with a few friends. We wanted something French but light—not always the most logical combination—and we had the good fortune of stumbling upon Super Nature on the rue de Trevise. The atmosphere feels more like an airy farmhouse than it does an urban restaurant, and the servers’ friendly and laid-back vibe solidified our hunch: this is not your average Parisian restaurant. While not explicitly a vegetarian restaurant, Super Nature emphasizes veggies, featuring them in risottos, quiches, tarts, and soups. Meat-lovers, don’t fret. Super Nature also serves up a serious cheeseburger.
On this particular evening, we began with glasses of organic wine, followed by a vegetable risotto, a sea bass with tomato confit, and colorful vegetable “tower”—all of which were delicious without being sinfully delicious. After eating so healthily, we were obviously all about dessert. We jumped at the riz au lait with strawberry compote AND the chocolat fondant with ginger cream. No regrets there. After chatting for a while, we exited onto the quiet rue de Trevise and unanimously agreed: we felt healthier. This is not something I can say after most restaurant meals that include both wine and dessert. No wonder Super Nature is so popular.
And while our dinner was great, I’ve heard that Sunday brunch is actually the best time to go. For those who are just passing through the neighborhood, Super Nature’s cafe (right next to the restaurant) is a great place to make a pit stop. (Get the carrot cake and don’t share!) In addition to the creative fare, Super Nature’s prices are quite reasonable. Entrees are in the 6€ range, plats are roughly 14€, desserts are 5.5€, and a glass of wine is 3-5€.
Now that fall is here, I’m sure the chef is serving up something new and autumn-appropriate. Might be time to revisit…
